TRIXON:A BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Trixon was founded in 1947 on September 18, by Karl-Heinz Weimer (born April 4th 1917) in Hamburg-Germany and the first Drums being made from 1948 and the first exhibition being in the same year at Bavaria in the South of Germany.
Trixon drums are amazing for their innovations in drum design and construction, including the Trixon Speedfire ellipsoidal shaped shell and also the Trixon Telstar conical shell.
Originally hand built by Weimer in his Germany workshop in Hamburg from 1949-1956, Trixon drums were very popular in Europe with the Jazz drummers of the day. In 1953 Mr Weimer finally got the patent.. Next a new factory in Hamburg/Maimoorweg , which produced the drums from 1956 until 1965 and also from 1967 manufacturing and distribution was also at Shannon Airport - Ireland and mainly distributed to U.S.A
Ivor Arbiter took over control of Trixon Drums distribution in the U.K. in the late 1950's and gained lots of interest from the jazz drummers of the day and this popularity continued in the U.K right through to the mid 60's with many endoresees of the brand...The most popular wrap back then was the blue stripes finish. Trixon quickly gained massive interest with American drummers of the 1950's/60'S and had several major artist endorsements including Lionel Hampton and Buddy Rich in 1967....

VOX KITS WERE RE-NAMED .. THUNDERBOLT,. FANJET ..AND THE.. TELSTAR
Early 1970 production ceased due to the Rippen company finishing in Ireland and in 1971 the remaining machinery and stock were transferred to Hamburg and stored their for more than 25 years There was talk of Tama a Japanese company buying up Trixon... but Karl -Heinz held back and in 1996 Mr Arthur Oeschger (an aquantee of Karl-Heinz) and in 1996 he bought the whole stock and machinery and all licences for Trixon Brand..
Arthur Oeschger in 1997 had a booth at the Frankfurt Music Fair and he also spread the word that Trixon Drums were back in production and taking orders and enquiries.!!
Unfortunately in 1998 a fire destroyed the production warehouse and hall and all the machinery within it and all stock was destroyed..
Mr Arthur Oeschger sadly died on 2 years later in 2000.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Many nice pictures and a lot of information. I am currently rehabbing my first kit - 1965 Luxus. The Gold Croco finish did not hold up well through the years. I am wrapping the shells (13, 16 and 20) in a Gold Tweed Carbon Fiber material and updating / replacing the hardware. Many of the hardware bolts and screws had corrosion and fatigue to the point where many broke while I was dismantling the kit. I am however, going to pay homage to the VOX / Trixon brand by using the VOX logo bass drum rods.
